History – Local
THE BLACK PAST IN GUELPH: REMEMBERED AND RECLAIMED
In collaboration with the Guelph Black Heritage Society, University of Guelph students in ENGL*2640 have engaged in a dual approach to the recovery of local black culture and community: our community-engaged research projects trace black family histories and map black homes, business, and institutions. Through remembering and reclaiming untold stories of black contributions and achievements in Guelph and beyond, we seek to disrupt the erasure of a long historical black presence in Guelph and raise awareness about how crucial parts of our history can be lost.
