The ‘Give A Cup’ Capital Campaign

Due to the financial mortgage burden for Heritage Hall — the stone church built in 1880 by local Black individuals — the Guelph Black Heritage Society is unable to focus funding on social justice initiatives, cultural education programs, and supporting BIPOC members of our community.

The ‘Give A Cup’ campaign is reaching out to the Guelph community for support. Your purchase of Lantern Brew coffee will raise money for the Guelph Black Heritage Society and help to liberate them from financial constraints.

50% of proceeds from every purchase will be donated to the Guelph Black Heritage Society.

Our Goal

To relieve the Guelph Black Heritage Society from its financial burden, our goal is to raise $1,500,000.

Without the weight of the mortgage, the GBHS will be able to devote more energy and funding towards the #ChangeStartsNow initiative, which focuses funding on social justice initiatives, cultural education programs, and supporting BIPOC members of our community.

Why Lantern?

In the mid-1800s, enslaved individuals travelled north through a network of routes known as the underground railroad systems to escape bondage. Selflessly risking their own safety to liberate all enslaved individuals, the people who worked in the underground railroad lit lanterns in their windows as a beacon of welcome, freedom, and safety.

Today, we use the historic symbol of a lantern to represent our need for help in funding social justice initiatives, cultural education programs, and supporting BIPOC members of our community.
